TIRE BALANCE

Good tire balance is essential to a smooth ride and also to reducing the
wear and tear on front end parts. Properly balanced, you should feel no
vibration at any speed. If you notice a shimmy in the steering wheel at a
given speed, your front tires are probably out of balance. If the steering
wheel is smooth but you feel a slight vibration, notice the passenger seat
as you drive down the road. If it shakes, rear wheels need balancing. Of
course, if the wheel and the seat shake, 4 wheels are in need of balance.

Alignment shops which use the
new computer balance machines are
usually reliable and guarantee
their work. If you still notice
shimmy after the work has been

done, take you car back to the shop
and ask them to check the balance
again. Just make sure they have a
specified mileage guarantee on the
balancing work.
